One of my favorite elements a writer can add to a story is immersing their readers into the setting of the novel. To make that setting come alive in the readers mind so they feel as if they traveled to a far off destination or explored a new city. It doesn’t even have to be some relaxing exotic destination, it could be a small sleepy town or a hustling city, but if they make me feel as if they have eaten the food, met the locals, and visited the small treasures a city has to offer, I with out a doubt want to visit that place! Soooo, I have come put together five contemporary romance novels/series that have inspired my inner wanderlust and have been added to my travel bucket list, and hopefully will one day be added to yours!
Budapest, Hungary from Erasing Faith by Julie Johnson
A fairytale city. A forbidden love. A fate doomed from the start.
Faith Morrissey is overdue for an adventure. After twenty years in the same small town, she sets out on a year-long study abroad trip, fully expecting to fall in love with the wonders of Budapest. She certainly doesn’t expect to fall for Wes, the mysterious stranger who sweeps her off her feet mere days after her arrival. It seems almost too good to be true…
Probably because it’s all a lie.
Weston Abbott is a ghost. In service to his country, he’s done unspeakable things – the kind of things that make settling down or falling in love out of the question. That’s never been a problem… until he meets Faith. No matter how many times Wes tells himself she’s just a mark, he can’t deny she rattles his composure like no one else. And he can’t seem to shake the forbidden feelings that stir to life whenever he’s with her.
Wes knows better than anyone: the line separating fact from fiction is almost as fine as the one between love and hate. And, if the truth comes out, it may erase their love along with all the lies…
ERASING FAITH is a full-length standalone second-chance romance, with a healthy dose of steam and suspense mixed in for good measure. Told in dual POV, it contains mature themes and strong language… and thus is intended for readers ages 17 and up.
Gold Bar Seattle, WA from Revelry by Kandi Steiner
From the bestselling author of Weightless and A Love Letter to Whiskey
Wren Ballard is trying to find herself.
She never expected to be divorced at twenty-seven, but now that the court date has passed, it’s official. The paperwork is final. Her feelings on it aren’t.
Spending the summer in a small mountain town outside Seattle is exactly what she needs. The peaceful scenery is a given, the cat with the croaky meow is a surprise, but the real kicker? A broody neighbor with nice arms, a strange reputation, and absolutely no interest in her.
Anderson Black is perfectly fine being lost.
He doesn’t care about the town’s new resident — he’s too busy fighting his own demons. But when he’s brought face to face with Wren, he can see her still-fresh wounds from a mile away. What he doesn’t see coming is his need to know who put them there — or his desperation to mend them.
Sometimes getting lost is the way to find yourself. Sometimes healing only adds a new scar. And sometimes the last place you expected to be is exactly where you find home.
Vernazza Italy from A Place In The Sun by R.S. Grey
A full-length STANDALONE romance from USA TODAY bestselling author R.S. Grey. When her mother’s incessant matchmaking hits an all-time high, Georgie Archibald does what any sensible woman would do: she flees the country. Seeking refuge in the picturesque seaside village of Vernazza, Italy, Georgie’s only plan is to lie low, gorge herself on gelato, and let the wine and waves wash her troubles away…that is until she wakes up in a bed that belongs to the most romantic-looking man she’s ever seen. Gianluca. After going out of his way to rescue her, the former London financier turned mysterious recluse makes it clear that despite acting as her white knight, he has no plans to co-star in her fairytale. But Georgie isn’t asking for his heart—she’s merely intrigued. After all, Gianluca isn’t just gorgeous—tall and tan from days spent in the sun—his touch sets her world on fire. With him, Georgie experiences the most intoxicating passion she’s ever known, and it only takes a few steamy nights for her to realize that sometimes running away from trouble is the best way to find it.
Enid Oklahoma from the Happenstance Series by Jamie McGuire
#1 New York Times Bestseller Jamie McGuire returns to self-publishing with this page-turning YA account of Erin Easter, one of three Erins in the small senior class of rural Blackwell High School who not only share a first name, but also their birthday. Easter, raised by a neglectful single mom, keeps to herself and admires Weston Gates from afar. The other Erins, Erin “Alder” Alderman and Erin “Sonny” Masterson are the darlings of the community: daughters of the two wealthiest families in town, best friends, cheerleaders, and everything Easter isn’t–and they never let her forget it. Alder has even claimed Weston since the 8th grade.
Weston is a well-liked star athlete, and the son of two prominent attorneys. He struggles daily with the pressures of living up to his family name and secretly empathizes with Easter’s feeling that she belongs somewhere else; in a different life. Not until he begins sneaking nights out with Easter does he gain the courage to buck expectations and acknowledge his feelings … both for his future, and for her.
A shocking tragedy rocks the tiny town, and Easter’s life is turned upside down in the best way possible. But when the truth is revealed and everything she thinks she wanted falls into her lap, life only becomes more complicated.
